Adam Hadwin fires club into water in wild Players Championship meltdown

Adam Hadwin launched his club into the water at the Players Championship on Thursday after hitting his ball in the drink.

The trouble for the Canadian started on the previous hole on the famed 17th island green at Players Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.

Hadwin hit into the water on that hole to make a double bogey and then hit his drive on 18 right up against the water.

Standing on the bulkhead next to the water, Hadwin attempted to hit a low draw into the green.

The shot landed in the fairway but the slope kicked it left as it approached the green and the ball tumbled into the water.

A frustrated Hadwin then launched his iron into the water as he went on to make a bogey on the hole and finish his opening round 3-over.

“That just tells you how this golf course can just knock you off your rocker,” analyst Notah Begay said on the broadcast, according to Golf.com.

Adam’s wife, Jessica, had a more humorous take on the situation.

“I apparently missed a little moment on 18 where the club joined its bestie the ball so I can not help you with commentary, but I’ll be sure to ask as soon as the round ends what happened!” Jessica wrote in a series of posts on X.

“I have seen the moment in question. If I’m going simply on the aesthetic of the toss….10/10,” said Jessica, who frequently jokes about Adam’s game and shares moments from her life on social media.

Jessica then shared a photo of Adam with the couple’s daughter with the message: ‘It won’t bring back the club, but it will help to ease the pain of all the water balls” alongside an emoji of a cookie.

Wyndham Clark, Rory McIlroy and Xander Schauffele were tied for the lead after the first round of the Players Championship, with Round 2 underway on Friday morning.
